This is really cool: astronauts onboard the International Space Station have long shown off what it’s like to play with water in microgravity. Now, they have taken some ultra high-def footage with colour and effervescent tablets.
Scott Kelly and his fellow astronauts have been shooting some great footage up in orbit, and to help out, they have got a RED 4K camera. In the above video, they have been experimenting with adding dyes and effervescent tablets to your typical blob of water, and the results are mesmerising.
Once again, astronauts on the International Space Station dissolved an effervescent tablet in a floating ball of water, and captured images using a camera capable of recording four times the resolution of normal high-definition cameras. The higher resolution images and higher frame rate videos can reveal more information when used on science investigations, giving researchers a valuable new tool aboard the space station. This footage is one of the first of its kind.
They note that if you want to see it in the proper 4k resolution, change over the resolution in the settings tab.
It looks like there’s going to be a lot more of this to come – it will be exciting to see what they come up with next.
