These New Emoji Are Perfect For The Olympics

You know you’ve been worried about how you’re going to express yourself during fencing matches at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Worry not! The Unicode Consortium has you covered with 29 new emoji being considered for release in June 2016.

The 29 new emojis revealed by the Unicode Technical Committee include everything from a cartwheeling gymnast to a sassy-looking water polo player. And of course, there are gold, silver, and bronze medals as well. Next May, the committee will decide which of these proposed emoji will make it into the Unicode 9.0 update. Combined with the 38 candidates revealed earlier this year, the newest designs could add as many as 67 new characters to your emoji library.

Obviously not all of the new emoji candidates are sports-themed. There’s also a gorilla, a lizard, a lying face (complete with Pinocchio nose), a prince, and what appears to be a pan full of paella. Let’s also not forget the very versatile glass of whiskey, which should come in handy when your country loses.

Here’s the full list of the 67 new emoji candidates. To see the chart glyphs and sample colour glyphs, click through to Unicode’s website.
