VLC Is Bringing Its Video Magic To The Apple TV

Here’s some good news for anyone planning to buy an Apple TV: VLC, the company behind the best video player for OS X and Windows (and arguable iOS) will be supporting Apple’s new set-top box.

In a blog post, the VLC team has announced its plans to bring the video-playing software that we know and love to tvOS. VLC has traditionally been good as a simple video player that can handle just about any kind of file; if you’re planning to use your shiny new Apple TV for more than just streaming stuff off iTunes, this is Good News.

Details are few and far between, but the team is claiming to have video playback working in tvOS already. The new Apple TV will only start disrupting people’s living rooms in late October, so there’s still time to get the VLC magic working fully before then.
