The Nerf Version Of Chewbacca’s Bowcaster Works Like A Real Crossbow

What would Star Wars be without all of those crazy intergalactic weapons like blasters and lightsabers? It wouldn’t be a ‘war’ and there definitely wouldn’t be a reason for Nerf to create a bunch of new dart guns. So deep down, we’re hoping that peace never actually comes to that far away galaxy.

The most interesting of the batch is Chewbacca’s Bowcaster ($US25) which, unlike a similar looking limited edition version released way back in 1996, actually uses a real crossbow action to fire darts up to 20 metres. That scope on top is removable if you’d rather just trust your Wookiee instincts, and the blaster comes with five darts held at the ready via a clip on the side.

As much as everyone loves Chewbacca, though, the First Order Stormtrooper Deluxe Blaster ($US40) might even be more enviable to both Star Wars fans and Nerf collectors. It comes with a 12-shot side-mounted dart magazine, slam-fire action allowing you to keep the trigger pulled and fire off shots as fast as you can pump the shotgun-like handle, and a detachable stock on the back.

It’s basically a reshelled version of Nerf’s Rampage, but it’s the rare redesign that actually looks better than the original. Die-hard Nerf fans often go to extreme lengths to get a better grip, stock, and more compact design for their Rampage, and here you get them (plus some sweet Star Wars styling) right out of the box.

Finally there’s the First Order Stormtrooper Blaster ($US13) which also has a removable sight on top, but comes with just three darts that need to be manually re-loaded each time. As a side arm it would certainly make for a useful backup, but we wouldn’t recommend facing off against a Jedi with only this weapon in your arsenal. [Nerf]
