Asus GX700 Water-Cooled Laptop is Delightfully Crazy

We’ve already seen a stack of cooling tech engineered into Acer’s new Predator laptops this week at IFA in Berlin. But water-cooling? Holy crap. Besides previewing the world’s first water-cooled laptop, Asus also unveiled heaps of new Republic of Gamers (ROG) gear — laptops, an ultra-wide curved G-Sync monitor, graphic cards, headsets and more.

Side note: we also got a look at Asus’ beastly new tri-band router, latest PC-on-a-stick and ZenWatch 2. As for pricing and availability for all the gear below. If it’s not listed, then we’ve not yet been updated.

Does The World Need A Water-Cooled Laptop?

If you’re absolutely performance mad and certain it’ll give you an edge, then yes. Yes we do.

Like the new G752 laptop (see below), GX700 features the new ROG color scheme with Armor Titanium and Plasma Copper accents.

The GX7800 will be powered by Intel’s latest overclockable 6-gen K-SKU processors and run Nvidia graphics. Dock the machine to the cooler and you can overclock performance that much more. But is all this bulk a better option than Alienware’s external GPU rig?

The 17-inch 4K/UHD IPS display will also support G-Sync.

The damn thing has everything except mechanical keys.

No word on what equally crazy price we might expect (or availability anywhere) — but it is real, and we were told to “stay tuned for an announcement.”

Asus ROG G752 Gaming Laptop

Meanwhile, the new G752 comes overclocked out of the box — armed with Intel’s new Skylake CPUs and Nvidia GTX 980 mobile graphics.

The machine includes backlit anti-ghosting 30-key rollover (for maximum keyboard accuracy in the heat of battle), and also has an innovative dust-release thermal solution that that efficiently captures dust and channels it out.

Of course, the new Windows 10 Xbox app also lets you play Xbox games on G752 directly, simultaneously play a game on G752 while streaming it to any room, or enjoy cross-platform Xbox gameplay with friends who are using the Xbox One via Xbox Live.

ROG G20 Special Edition Desktop

The latest version of Asus’ small form-factor gaming desktop includes improved thermals, lighting modes (music response has been added) and better specs: 6th-gen Intel Core i7 processor and Nvidia GeForce GTX Titan X graphics for smooth gameplay in 4K/UHD resolution.

ROG Swift PG348Q Monitor

Immersive, ultra-wide (21:9 ratio) gaming at 3440×1440. The curved 34-inch Swift PG348Q is G-Sync ready and has tilt, swivel and height adjustments. Refresh rate here is 100Hz — though Acer did also demo its upcoming 165Hz ROG PG279Q also with G-Sync support built-in.

ROG Matrix GTX 980Ti Platinum graphics card

With Asus-exclusive DirectCU cooling to maximise performance, reduce noise and improve stability. Asus claims 10mm heat pipes help deliver 25% cooler performance and 3x less noise than reference cards.

ROG 7.1 surround gaming headset

10 discrete audio drivers and a dedicated USB soundcard for high-quality surround.

Maximus VIII Extreme/Assembly

Built to overclock, the Maximus VIIIvuses the new ROG Plasma Copper color scheme, and includes the ROG SupremeFX Hi-Fi headphone amplifier plus 10Gb/s Ethernet.
