iOS 9 Now Explicitly Encourages Selfies

If you needed further proof that 2015 is the Year of the Selfie, look no further than the latest beta of iOS 9, which among other things, has brought a dedicated selfie folder to your iPhone.

The folder is tucked away in the regular Photos app, where it amalgamates any pictures taken with the front-facing camera into the new Selfies folder. This is just the latest high-profile validation for the selfie genre, following along from being the 2013 Word of the Year, sparking an official Russian government how-to guide, and ruining Nelson Mandela’s funeral.

The selfies folder is part of a bevy of new features in the third beta of iOS 9. Along with the Selfies folder, there’s also an (infinitely more useful) Screenshots folder, the Apple News app, an option for high-quality streaming in Apple Music, and best of all, Siri doesn’t make a beeping noise when you’re in silent mode.
