The biggest concern about driving a Tesla on a giant, barren island at the bottom of the world is wondering where you’re going to charge it. Tesla is hard at work rolling out Superchargers in Australia, but now there are a host of chargers at places you’re already driving to thanks to something called Destination Charging.
Tesla has been installing High Power Wall Unit chargers at prominent points of interest around Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
These High Power Wall Unit chargers pump up to 40 amps of power into a Model S. They’re the same chargers that Tesla installs in an owner’s homes when they buy the Model S.
Destination Chargers have been been installed in Secure car parks across the three capital cities, as well as in hotels like the Park Hyatt and Darling in Sydney; Canberra’s Hotel Realm; The Observatory in Port Macquarie and Rundells Alpine Lodge Dinner Plain near Mount Hotham.
Shopping centres like Westfield Chatswood and Westfield Chadstone are also getting the Model S fast chargers. Overall, there are 10 sites in Australia with the chargers.
