Competition Between Streaming Video Providers Heats Up

Here in Australia we have quite a few streaming options. Stan, Presto, Quickflix, Netflix and Foxtel Play. But head of Fetch TV Scott Lorson thinks that at least one will bow out within a year. But which will it be?

Let’s be honest, it’s probably not going to be Netflix. Other people in the know, such as the bigwigs at Presto, Quickflix and Stan think that it will take a lot longer.

The discussion came up at a recent mUmBRELLA conference session on the “State of Streaming”, where most agreed that the current players in the Australian market had the financial backing to make a longer term go of it.

Of course there are already some casualties — Quickflix made a recent deal to stream Presto content, but will hang onto it’s pay per view movies and TV shows, as well as the DVD side of the business.

Whatever happens, the competition is good for end users, with potentially lower prices and more content.

But at the same time, having your favourite shows spread across multiple streaming services is just plain annoying, not to mention expensive.

So who do you want to win the streaming war? Tell us in the comments.
