The famous ringed doughnut of secrecy that houses the UK’s GCHQ spy overlords has gone all rainbow coloured for a short while, as the agency wired up a few interestingly coloured bulbs to highlight the fact that yesterday was the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.
The day, shortened to the more easily pronounceable IDAHOT, came into being to raise awareness of the issues surrounding homophobia, transphobia and biphobia. And with Alan Turing on the payroll of GCHQ forerunner Bletchley Park, GCHQ felt that making its home colourful was a nice way of showing its support.
GCHQ explained: “We’re projecting it onto our building to show the UK that GCHQ is place that values diversity; we look for talent no matter what package it comes in. We have an important role in keeping this country safe. We need diverse teams to take on this challenge, because we know that diverse teams perform better.” [GCHQ via BBC]
