The Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge will be the third bridge over the Bosporus connecting Europe and Asia. This foggy early morning view of its two pylons was captured from the USS Jason Dunham guided-missile destroyer when it was leaving the Black Sea on April 14, 2015.
According to the builders, the Turkish bridge will set several new records when completed. It will be: the first bridge in the world with an eight-lane highway and two-lane railway on the same level; the widest suspension bridge in the world with a width of 59m; and the longest spanning bridge that has a rail system on it, with a main span of 1408m. It should also have the highest bridge tower in the world, standing 320m tall. All pretty impressive. The new bridge should be completed this year.
