Call me a blaster-bolt-happy unoriginal action-sequence heathen, but my favourite 20 minutes of Star Wars remains the Imperial invasion of Hoth. Now, imagine if you took the AT-ATs and TIE fighters, and dropped them over Los Angeles instead.
This two-minute short imagining an Imperial/Rebel battle over LAX, Santa Monica Pier and the Queen Mary is the work of filmmaker Kaipo Jones, who spent a few months painstakingly animating the invasion. In addition to the main video, there’s also a good behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to bring a slice of a galaxy far, far away to home.
