Aussie Pricing For Sony’s New (And Super Expensive) Walkman

Remember that rather expensive reinvention of Sony’s classic music player, the Walkman? We knew the damage in freedom dollars — $US1200 — but now we have Australian pricing straight from the source.

If you guessed “higher”, well done! If you guessed “a lot higher”, you’re on the borderline. According to the product page on Sony’s website, you’ll have to part with $1599 if you’d like one of your own. Direct purchases are unavailable at the moment, with Sony’s online store currently out of stock.

A $400 mark-up is not unexpected — it works out to be $30 less than the USD/AUD exchange rate. I’m also not sure the sort of person willing to spend over $1000 on a gussied-up audio player is too concerned about shelling out a few hundred dollars extra.

Specifications can also be found on Sony’s site, however, here are a few of the more important ones:

  • Android 4.2
  • 128GB internal storage, with support for microSD capacities in excess of 64GB
  • 854 x 480, 4-inch display
  • USB 2.0 and WM-PORT connectivity, along with Bluetooth and 802.11a/b/g/n wireless
  • Dimensions: 64.7 x 130.4 x 16.2mm, weight: 235g
