Windows 10 Will Be Free For Raspberry Pi

Earlier today, Raspberry Pi announced a new, powerful version of its Pi 2 Model B+ that still costs $US35. Now, Microsoft has also announced that a free version of Windows 10 will be available for Raspberry Pi devices.

A long time coming — and perhaps spurred by the newly powerful hardware — the operating system will be freely available via the Windows Developer Program for IoT later this year. There’s now word on whether the version of Windows 10 will be any lighter than other installs, but Microsoft explains that it will be sharing more details soon. Regardless, Windows 10 on a Pi is an exciting prospect, that open up a lot more possibilities for the pint-sized computer. [Microsoft]
