5 kilometres; tens of thousands of smiling faces. Four zones of food-dyed cornstarch colour assault all up in your bits. This is the Swisse Color Run, the ‘Happiest 5k on the Planet’. Last Sunday, Gizmodo Australia’s Luke Hopewell, Campbell Simpson and Danny Allen slapped on our protective sunnies, braved a lack of early morning coffee and put together this video of our Olympic Park battle.
Welcome back to Fitmodo powered by the new Fitbit Charge HR activity wristband — now with continuous heart rate tracking — and the Fitbit Surge fitness super watch. Heart rate, calories, steps and sport tracking with long battery life, call and text notifications, auto sleep monitoring and more.
Check out the video below.
By the way, that’s us up top… from left to right: Danny (that’d be me), Luke and Campbell.
Yeah, we look like 1980s Hypercolour refugees. But it was all in good fun, and we actually had a pretty good time. Fitness is all about finding what moves you. Productive distraction. Also doesn’t hurt to rope in friends in to join you of course.
Started by Utah event producer Travis Snyder in 2012, the Color Run (complete with unfortunate American spelling) was inspired by day-glow events, Disney’s World of Color — and, very clearly, cultural festivals like Holi.

Today the run takes place throughout North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia. Here, Celebrate Life Foundation and Ryder Cheshire Foundation are The Color Run’s Corporate Event Partners.
It also has ten national charity partners that particpants help raise money for. These include the RSCPA, Cancer Council, Beyondblue Depression & Anxiety, Heartkids and the Starlight Children’s Foundation.

Into The Night
And this is new for Australia. There’s now The Color Run… Night coming up on May 16. Individuals or teams can now go get their glow on. With costumes.
So yeah, there’s that.
“You in Luke?,” I tease. “Nooope. I’ll stick to the elliptical. Wait, does eating Tim Tams count?”
