The Long Tentacle On This Wireless Sensor Alerts You To Water Leaks

Nothing can ruin a holiday faster than worrying about what might be happening in your home while you’re away, and security cameras and motion sensors don’t always spot every problem. For a little more peace of mind, D-Link’s new Wi-Fi Water Sensor features a long flexible cable that can detect and immediately alert you about the smallest of water leaks before they turn into major disasters.

The Long Tentacle On This Wireless Sensor Alerts You To Water Leaks

The sensor needs to be plugged into an outlet to ensure it’s always got power, but it’s able to connect to your home’s Wi-Fi network so the only cable needed is the sensor itself that can be snaked underneath washing machines, dish washers, or even wrapped around a pipe to spot leaks at their source. When a problem is detected, the sensor can be configured, through an accompanying app, to sound an alarm or immediately send your phone an alert.

Available sometime in the second quarter of 2015 for $US60, the mydlink Wi-Fi Water Sensor does require the $US80 mydlink Connected Home Hub be connected to your home’s wireless network if you want it to be able to trigger alarms or turn off a leaking appliance automatically using smart plugs. But it can also function on its own and connect to your home’s wireless network if the mobile alerts are all you need to spring into action when there’s a problem. [D-Link]
