This region is the Lorentz National Park, the largest national park in South-East Asia, and one of the most ecologically diverse national parks in the world. It contains marine areas, mangroves, tidal and freshwater swamp forest, lowland and montane rainforest, alpine tundra and equatorial glaciers — and many unmapped and unexplored areas, with many unknown species of plants and animals.
