Hilarious Photographs Recreate Renaissance Paintings With Junk Food

These pictures by photographer Rebecca Rütten made me laugh so much because she re-created Renaissance-era poses and still life paintings with people today and a whole lot of junk food. It’s a wonderful commentary on our culture and is pretty much what the Renaissance would look like, if it happened in 2015.

Rütten writes about her project, which she calls Contemporary Pieces:

During the conception of “Contemporary Pieces, “I became enamoured with the eroticism, presentation and charisma of paintings from the Renaissance Period. In the Late Renaissance, Italian and Dutch painters dealt with the middle and lower classes. In my opinion, Fast Food Culture represents these two social classes in the United States today. To eat healthy is expensive. However, one can buy large amounts of food at a fast food restaurant for a comparatively low price.
