Crowdfunded Open-Source Dildo? Crowdfunded Open-Source Dildo

A startup called Comingle is trying to raise $US50,000 to launch The Mod, a “multivibrating open-source dildo”. OK, you have my attention.

The dildo, like most out there, has many possible vibrating patterns. Where the Arduion-based platform gets interesting is in the different ways you can control its stimulating tremors using data from input sources and sensors. By nature of being open source, the only limitations are your (filthy) imagination. But as foreplay, the company has already built out a number of integrations. The Mod ships with a Wii Nunchuk controller:

A standard, simple, and powerful control for the toy. The joystick can manipulate power and pulsing patterns. Shaking the nunchuck’s accelerometer can modulate the frequency of the vibrations. To fulfil one major request from Beta testers, we also programmed the “C” button as an easy “kill switch” to shut the toy off right when you come!

Or how about using biometric sensors?

A heartbeat sensor lets you feel your partner’s arousal in the throbbing toy. This one is a real favourite — it’s super cool to feel the rhythm increase with your partner’s excitement.

Comingle plans to offer a bunch of such controllers that work without any technical knowledge. I’m much more excited to find out what the randy nerds of the world figure out, when and if this open source fantasy actually comes true.

All the standard warnings of crowdfunding apply: Be careful where you put your money and no one knows if one of these will ever wind up vibrating embarrassingly in your sock drawer while mum is over to visit. Crowdfunding ends February 12th. [Indiegogo]
