Google+ Can Now Fix Up Home Videos For You

In May 2013, Google announced new photo features for Google+ including “auto-backup,” “auto enhance,” and something perplexingly called “auto awesome.” Now, the Google + team is extending some of these abilities to your videos as well.

As the video up above demonstrates (though in strangely low resolution), Google+ can now adjust colour, saturation, and stability. Open up Google+ in the browser or tap the Photos app on Android, and you’ll now see an “auto enhance” option under settings. Here’s a complete breakdown of all the new photo editing powers:

  • Use Auto Backup to securely store the videos you shoot.
  • Google+ will automatically analyse picture and audio quality. For best results make sure you have Auto Enhance turned on.
  • When we think we can make improvements, desktop Web users will see a banner asking whether you’d like to preview enhancements.
  • The preview will show an instant side-by-side comparison so you can choose to apply changes or stick with the original.

Google also says that they will be including a feature to improve the sound of a video, which would be amazing for all those loud concert clips I’m always shooting.

When Google announced similar additions to photos last year, the potential was there but it needed a little refining. Hopefully, Google learned its lesson and “auto-enhance” will become a must have feature for Android and Google+. [Google+ via PetaPixel]
