Here’s an action scene from a movie called Hardcore that’s filmed completely from one character’s point of view so it looks exactly like a first person shooter video game. In fact, it’s so good, it’s as if those FPS video games like Call of Duty all of a sudden came to life. Watch it.
It’s also sort of funny to be wowed by this (and I totally am) because video games like FPS’s are supposed to mimic real life and now this movie is mimicking video games mimicking real life. No matter, because it’s so very cool. The filmmaker behind Hardcore, Ilya Naishuller, has shot all the scenes for the POV movie but needs to crowdsource funding for the CGI effects and sound mixing. He’s raising money through IndieGoGo here.
Here’s what the movie is about:
HARDCORE is a modern, action Sci-Fi story about HENRY, a newly resurrected cyborg who must save his wife/creator ESTELLE (Haley Bennet) from the clutches of a psychotic tyrant with telekinetic powers, AKAN (Danila Kozlovsky), and his army of mercenaries. Fighting alongside Henry is JIMMY (Sharlto Copley), who is Henry’s only hope to make it through the day. Hardcore takes place over the course of one day, in Moscow, Russia and it’s all shot in the same style as BAD MOTHERFUCKER to be released in cinemas worldwide.

And here’s the short, which was shot by the same director, that inspired Hardcore:
