Twitter: Inserting Strangers’ Tweets Into Your Timeline Is Now A Feature

Twitter has published a blog post explaining that recommended tweets are no longer a test — they’re here to stay in your timeline.

The social network has been injecting the tweets from people you don’t follow into your feed for a while now. But the news confirms that this is no longer just an experiment, it’s a feature.

“Choosing who to follow is a great first step — in many cases, the best Tweets come from people you already know, or know of. But there are times when you might miss out on tweets we think you’d enjoy,” writes Trevor O’Brien from Twitter’s product team. “To help you keep up with what’s happening, we’ve been testing ways to include these tweets in your timeline — ones we think you’ll find interesting or entertaining.”

Thanks Trevor! That does, of course, mean that our feeds are now being filled with both curated content and ads, as well as the things that we actually choose to see. The noisiest social media platform just got even noisier. [Twitter]
