If you’re a fan of hip hop or electronic music, you’ve heard that sick, signature beat of the Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer. Heck, if you’re a fan of music in general you’ve probably heard it, because the 808 is the most famous drum machine ever made. And now it has its own documentary.

With commentary by everyone from Afrika Bambaataa to Diplo to Pharrell, 808 looks like a true tribute to a timeless device that changed music as we know it. Directed by Alex Dunn, the documentary comes on the heels of a re-release of the drum machine, so the timing of the movie makes great sense. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until 2015 to see the whole thing.
