Find The Perfect Laptop In This Comprehensive, Interactive Map

There are a lot of laptops out there. A lot. Too many to navigate easily. But this chart thrown together by Marek Gibney helps. It’s called the Tourist Map of Laptops, and it can help you grok the whole wide range of available computers at least a little bit.

The concept is simple; each laptop is represented by a little icon and organised on an x-axis of price and a y-axis of screen size. Of course, specs get more complicated than that, so you can hover over for more details, or limit your searches by RAM, disk space and maximum weight.

The map isn’t completely exhaustive — I didn’t check; it just can’t be — and there a few more search criteria that could make it a little more helpful. Folks on Hacker News point out that maybe screen resolutions, SSD options, and touchscreens would be nice filtering options as well. Hopefully Gibney can get around to adding some to make this a seriously useful tool.

In the meantime, just cruise around and marvel in the sheer variety of what’s out there. And if you’re aching for even more, Gibney has similar maps of flash drives, MP3 players and SSDs. Go get lost in a field of gadgets. [Gnod via Hacker News]
