If you find yourself wander a strange city in the middle of the night, something is probably wrong. But if you stop and take all in, the urban landscape is somewhat surreal at night, when all of the people are sleeping. Photographer Paul Puiia captured that uncanny feeling so well, I don’t think I’ll ever look at cities the same way.
Brick & Glass is an on going project that looks at his hometown, Worcester, Massachusetts, in a different light — street lights to be specific. Puiia found what would otherwise be very pedestrian spots in the city and photographed them with a long enough exposure time that every detail is rendered in hyperrealistic detail.
The overall effect makes the images look like Ed Ruscha paintings half the time time. The other half, they’re straight out of a horror flick.
Scary is not the word I’d use to describe the Puiia’s photos though. They’re hauntingly beautiful. I can’t wait to see more.
