Huge GoPro Hero 4 Leak Reveals Silver And Black Edition Features

Yesterday, we shared the information some sleuths on Reddit had been able to pull together about the rumoured GoPro Hero4 action camera. Now PetaPixel has a huge scoop revealing what appears to be real official photos of the new camera as well as the features of differing Silver and Black editions of the camera

If we believe PetaPixel’s source then it turns out that the Reddit leak was correct that 4K 30 fps video capture and a new touch LCD on the back of the camera are the most important features of the next generation GoPro. What we didn’t know is that apparently those features won’t be available on the same camera. There will be different Hero4 Black and Silver editions.

The Hero4 Silver will have a touch LCD on the back 4K video at 15fps, 2.7K at 30fps, 1440p at 48fps, 1080p at 60fps, 960p at 100fps, and 720p at 120fps. It takes 12-megapixel stills and is waterproof down to 40m. The Black edition is basically the same except that it captures 4K video at up to 30 fps, which is way more useful than 15 fps. The trade off is that you don’t get the touch display on the back. It seems the new cameras no longer shoot 240 fps footage.

Still no word on pricing. PetaPixel claims that the cameras will be announced on October 8, so if it turns out that the new GoPro really is coming, we won’t have to wait too much longer to find out. [PetaPixel]
