The First 4K OLED TV You Can Buy Will Cost $12,000

OLED has taken its sweet time to arrive in 4K sets, but now LG has announced that the first such set is about to go on sale. And this thing looks good enough to fall in love with.

LG will be selling its 65-inch 4K OLED — first in South Korea this week and then in North America and Europe soon after — for the princely sum of 12 million won, about $12,000. That’s a lot of cash, for sure, but it does get you beautifully deep blacks and razor-sharp edges. There will be a larger version, measuring 77 inches, available too, though it’s not clear when or for how much. Both TVs run on LG’s retooled webOS platform.

While 4K OLED sets have been peered at by tech journalists since CES 2013, this is the first to actually go on sale. Whether a 4K set is really worth it right now, given the amount of content you can get for them? That’s up to you. [LG]
