Search on Facebook sucks so hard it would be funny if it wasn’t frustrating. Now it looks like Facebook is finally doing something about it, so allow me a minute to bounce around my living room in joy.
The social network is testing a feature for its mobile app that lets people search through old posts by friends by keyword to resurface buried content, which, if you think about it, is how the whole thing should have worked in the first place.
You can only see content from friends or Pages that have been previously available. In other words, if you couldn’t see something that someone posted because they locked down their privacy settings on you, for instance, it still won’t show up in your search results. Facebook told Bloomberg that the feature is “an improvement to search on mobile”, which isn’t saying much, considering how low that bar has been.
The feature isn’t available to everyone yet, but those who get it will be able to type something like “birthday party Tom Smith” to instantly get pictures from Tom Smith’s birthday, for instance.
That’s a heck of a lot more straightforward than Graph Search. [Bloomberg]
