Got a HP or Compaq laptop? Better check the power cord; HP is recalling six million of them due to a fire risk.
The voluntary recall affects chargers included with some HP and Compaq laptops, mini laptops, and charging stations sold between September 2010 and June 2012 and only affects the power cord, the part that attaches the brick to the wall. So far the cables have been found to be responsible for 29 incidents of minor burns and property damage.
Faulty cords — prone to overheat, catch on fire or pose a burn hazard — will have a marking of LS-15 on the part of the cable that plugs into the brick, and if you have one you should stop using it immediately and head to HP’s website to get a replacement. [HP via PCWorld]
