Speed painting can be purposefully misleading but it’s always fun to have your brain pump in that delayed “Ohhhh” reaction once you realise what’s going on. You feel like a complete idiot with your mouth open until you see it. And even then, you’re not completely sure it’s not sorcery.

Here’s one of those sorcery artists at work. In this instance of speed painting, he’s working on a black and white portrait on the beach. For the first minute and a half it looks like scribbles that a five-year-old would do. And then in the last 10 seconds, everything changes.
