What Scratched Records Look Like Through A Microscope

Everybody knows the sound of a scratched record. But have you ever wondered what that maddening little blemish looks like up close? Well, you’re in luck, because Zammuto’s music video for “Great Equator” featuring scratched records was filmed entirely with a microscope. And it’s more interesting than you might think.

Up close, vinyl records look less like expanses of black and more like topographical landscapes. Zammuto, which is made up of two former members of The Books, also throws in a few images of other things as seen through microscope, including scratched CDs, ink on paper, and, more curiously, bug faces. Actually, the whole thing sort of spirals out of control until it’s basically just a bunch of monkeys. That doesn’t make it any less fun, though! [Motherboard]
