Watch Time Evaporate With A Clock That Paints The Hours In Water

It’s probably related to our limited existence on this planet, but mankind has an unmistakable obsession with time. How else would you explain all the energy we put into building countless clocks designed to tick away the seconds, from a simple Timex watch, to this wonderful WaterColorBot that paints every passing minute?

The folks over at the Evil Mad Scientists Laboratories modified one of their water colour painting robots to instead paint a simple analogue clock face displaying whatever time it happened to be when it started its brushwork. And so they didn’t have to keep swapping out the canvas every minute, they used a ceramic-coated Buddha Board that shows the wet brush strokes until they evaporate away.

It’s mesmerising to watch. For a species so enamoured with time, it’s amazing how much of it we’re content to simply while away. [Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories via BoingBoing]
