$1000 for a car. 4000 kilometres to travel. One week to do it all. The Shitbox Rally is back for another year, and a bunch of plucky teams are pushing 250 cars to their limits on the way from Perth to Darwin.
Now in its fifth year, the Shitbox Rally is a simple enough concept: get a cheap car (the more inappropriate for the journey the better, naturally), raise $4000 or over for the trip and for cancer research, then turn up in Perth and start the journey.
Some teams have raised over $10,000, and a special few have over $20,000 to their names — the majority of which goes to the Cancer Council to contribute towards cancer education and research. Almost $1.3 million has been cleared so far — a great effort from everyone involved. It’s very much a good cause, and you can still donate at each team’s Everyday Hero fundraising page.
There should be some great stories from the road throughout the next week of the teams’ outback travel. You can read more about the 2014 Shitbox Rally on Business Insider.
