Sydney Now Has A Second 3D Printing Studio

Buying a 3D printer for your home is an expensive (and confusing) undertaking. If you don’t want to drop a couple of grand on a new computer-controlled magical plastic extruder, you’ve got another choice: Sydney now has a second 3D printing studio, out in Parramatta.

3D Printing Studio has had a store in The Rocks in Sydney’s CBD for a year or so now, but the franchise has expanded with a second store opening in Parramatta last night. There’s another store planned for Freemantle in Perth at the end of this month, too. With the help of a Parramatta local council grant, the store has been built over the last couple of weeks and kitted out with some of the latest 3D printing and 3D scanning technology.

The Parramatta 3D Printing Studio store has a total of 15 3D printers up and running, with four state of the art ones — two sourced from Australia, one from the US and one from Japan. 3D scanning also lets customers get a virtual model of themselves or another object for near-real-time printing; Parramatta deputy mayor Paul Garrard is being scanned in the photo above.

As well as offering scanning and printing services to the general public, the store is running regular 3D printing and 3D modeling classes, and plans to hold a monthly meetup for 3D printing enthusiasts. The Darcy St, Parramatta store is open for business now. [3D Printing Studio]
