The Sony Lifeband SWR10 is out in Australia, joining the rising tide of wearable gadgets and fitness trackers and everything monitors already available in stores. It’s one of the more complete wearable packages we’ve seen, so it should make for some stiff competition to Jawbone and Fitbit.
The Lifeband SWR10 is an inch long, a centimetre wide, and white — like a super-sized grain of rice. It comes with two silicone wristbands, for large and small wrists, and eight different band colours can be purchased (for an additional $49 each). There’s no iOS integration, but the Lifelog Android app tracks movement, counts calories, and not so subtly keeps an eye on other ‘life’ events like your use of email and Web browsing.
The waterproof wearable syncs over Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy, although a NFC chip can be used with a compatible smartphone to speed up the initial connection process. An inbuilt vibration motor, a la Jawbone UP, notifies you when you’re getting a call or message.
Sony’s latest tracking gadget will set you back $159 in Australia, and if you buy one from Sony’s online store it should be in your hands in under a week. [Sony Australia]
