Look At Apple’s First 1980s Stab At The Smartwatch

A design book that promises to show the “true design story” behind Apple features some glorious retro designs from the company, including this early concept of a form of smartwatch that makes up for in buttons what it lacks in screen — and pairs with a wireless headset.

The image is one of many from designer Hartmut Esslinger’s book Keep It Simple: The Early Design Years of Apple, that contains illustrations, concepts and designs produced by Esslinger for Steve Jobs from 1982 onwards.

The book also shows a laughable-in-hindsight computer in a suitcase, with the enormous white box folding open to reveal an Apple Lisa with its own display, telephone and printer. Imagine having that much power in the boot of your car. [Keep it Simple via Apple Insider]
