Sorry, Laser Zeppelin, This German Light Show Is Way Cooler Than You

Whoa. It’s happened. Laser-Zeppelin has met its match. The crazy creative folks at Urbanscreen have transformed the cavernous interior of the Gasometer in Oberhausen, Germany, into a wild light show that looks all kinds of trippy. So long, Stairway.

The sights and sounds here run in a continuous 22-minute loop and appear to completely change the space based on the projections. Considering that they look overwhelmingly cool just checking them out on my teensy 11″ laptop screen, I can only imagine what it would feel like to experience the multi-sensory mash-up in real life.

Plus, the venue itself is incredible: a 100mhigh gas holder that’s been standing since 1929, survived a few bombs in WWII, was decommissioned in 1988, and now hosts exhibitions and installations. Neato.

The whole thing reminded me of these neon inter-dimensional portals that recently went up in Madison Square Park (which I also didn’t get to see in person…).

Urbanscreen’s 320° LICHT spatial experience will be up through the end of this year; if anyone has gone or goes between now and then, report back! I’d love to hear how it felt. [designboom]
