Exploring a city on foot is one way to get a feel for the place, but there’s always lots of history hidden behind the street-side facades that you’d never really get just by looking at them. Those whose hearts beat for Barcelona are going to love Big Time BCN, a new interactive map which allows users to zoom in and learn more about over 10,000 sites and monuments in the Catalonian capital.
The design team at 300,000kms/s culled info from Barcelona’s Heritage Catalogue database and put it together into this infinitely clickable format. It’s like an architectural history lesson, taught remotely, complete with structural, visual, and cultural details about “normal” buildings that aren’t regularly given the glory of something like Gaudi’s La Sagrada Familia.
There’s an Android app as well, if you’re OK with depending on your phone for info while travelling. All in all, the whole thing is pretty much guaranteed to make you want to book a trip and explore Spain in real time. [Wired]
