Victorian Police now have new cameras. Shiny new cameras. Scary new cameras. These new cameras can see you doing something wrong before you even know a Police car is watching you. It can see you doing stuff like using your mobile phone while driving, for example, from a distance of 700 metres.

In a new blitz against “distracted driving”, Victorian Police will deploy new camera technology in the state to target stuff like using your phone while driving and not wearing your seatbelt.
The new cameras are set to be rotated around 2000 different mobile camera sites in Victoria over the next two weeks. That’s not to say there are 2000 of these cameras, it is to say you’ll never know where they’ll be. Which is kind of the point.
What do you think of police cameras seeing you before you can see them?
