If you watch True Detective, these photos might strike a haunting chord, but rest assured, they are merely tree stands erected by hunters in the forests of Bavaria.

Photographer Jörg Marx, based in Bavaria, brings us this collection of moody and mysterious landscapes. He treks through the woods on an ongoing basis, documenting the odd structures similar to the ones we featured on Gizmodo not long ago.

It’s less about hunting and more about the attempt of the symbiosis with the trees – as children dream to build their own tree house in the woods. I met a man — a hunter — who told me that if he can not sleep at night, he goes to his deer stand: There he sleeps very well.
