Mythbusters Is Heading Down Under For ‘Behind The Myths’

Mythbusters is coming to Australia in August, causing general mayhem in a tour that takes the team around Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Sydney and Brisbane for a behind the scenes look at the production of the show.

Eight shows across the nation’s major capitals are planned; Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane get two shows each while Adelaide and Perth will have to make do with only one. “A fantastical evening” is promised, with on-stage experiments, stories from the show’s hosts, and even some (hopefully willing) audience participation. The site for the tour is currently experiencing some heavy traffic as Australian fans rush to buy tickets, so you might have to wait a few minutes to get on.

Tickets for the tour range between $90 and $140, plus the usual booking fees. There are VIP meet-and-greet packages that will cost more, of course, but you get to meet the guys behind Mythbusters – how cool is that?

Tickets aren’t on sale just yet, though. There’s a Ticketek pre-sale happening from Thursday 27th March at 10am to Sunday 30th, with tickets going on sale to the general public on Monday 1st April at 10am. Make sure you set a reminder if you’re keen on snagging some tickets; we expect these to go quickly despite the venues’ large maximum capacity.

One half of the original Mythbusters duo, Adam Savage, first teased the news on Friday. Both Savage and his co-host Jamie Hyneman will be in Australia for the tour, while ‘B-team’ Tory Belleci, Kari Byron and Grant Imahara will stay back in California to work on the new series currently in production.

As well as starring on Mythbusters, Adam and Jamie are also an integral part of Tested, the online tech network with a focus on science, Adam’s prop-making and Jamie’s electronics workshop. Savage has just been in Austin, Texas for the SXSW cultural conference, where he gave a keynote speech on the symbiotic relationship between art and science. We’re hoping he’ll have more to say on this fascinating topic when he and the team reach Australian shores in a few months.
