The newly announced BigRep 3D printer lives up to its name: with 1.3 cubic metres of working volume, it’s big enough to print furniture.
Primarily aimed at studio and office use, the printer’s build volume measures 114cm x 100cm x 119cm. Inside that space, it can fashion objects out of plastics, but can also be tweaked to print using a mixture of wood fibres or polymers, as well as Laybrick — which is a filament that behaves a little like sandstone. If you do fancy printing your own furniture at home though, it will set you back — the printer will cost $US39,000. [BigRep via CNET]
