This Genius App Would Turn Your Smartphone Pics Into Prints

Where are the dozens of pictures on your smartphone or tablet going? Nowhere, probably. Printing them at home looks chintzy, and getting professional prints is expensive. Flag wants to change that, with an app that would give you high-quality prints and mail them wherever you want, all for free. Cool!

The app, which is currently a Kickstarter project, would give you up to 20 prints each month, on “museum quality,” laser-cut stock, mailed anywhere in the U.S. All this is free, because — as you may have already guessed — the back of each print will host an advertisement of some sort. That seems like a completely reasonable concession for a free service that, by Flag’s estimates, would cost around $US65 to replicate via Shutterfly or the like. And Flag promises to offer a bunch of customisation options for an additional fee, including special messages on the back of each postcard, enlargements, and laser-cut borders.

Yes, there’s something decidedly backward-feeling about ordering up prints of digital images you snapped on your pocket computer. But the way most of us use our devices, those photos might as well disappear after we’ve taken them. If Flag makes it out of Kickstarterland and into reality, it would be a delightful (and free!) way to prevent that. [Flag]
