Want to stroll down virtual memory lane? You could futz around with classic software on a virtual machine or rummage through yard sales for a working model of your first computer. Or, you could cruise the Ars Technica. Which sounds a hell of a lot easier.

My favourite’s gotta be James Friend’s Mac OS System 7 emulator, which even runs inside a window drawn to look like a Macintosh Plus. All seven found by Ars Technica are fun to play with, though some of them don’t feel quite as nostalgic — like Total Emulator’s Windows XP throwback, which gives a glimpse all the way back to the OS that’s probably still running on a machine not far from you.
