When Photoshop’s Content-Aware Fill Screws Up It Makes Art

Photoshop is amazingly powerful. But like any other program it’s limited. Sometimes hilariously so. And content-aware fill is an example of an amazing feature that’s still in the grey area between amazing and really off base.

The Tumblr “Content Aware Typography,” founded by Italian designer Silvio Lorusso, explores this no-man’s land by asking people to submit content-aware filled images centered on text. The instructions say: 1. Choose a picture with some typography in it; 2. Select an area that is close to the letters; 3. Apply Photoshop’s Content-Aware Fill; 4. Submit. It’s a simple idea, but the patterns and explosions produced by the process are hilarious and aesthetically awesome. [Tumblr]
