Sometimes, when the holidays roll around, things go wrong and you need to get creative. How creative? Well, that’s up to your family and their own zany ways.
Wired‘s Rhett Allain imagined the zaniest of scenarios for Thanksgiving Day. What if you had no oven — but an unlimited number of D batteries? How many would it take to cook a 10 pound turkey? Using some not-so-super-simple science, Allain calculated the specific heat of turkey, counted out how many Joules it would require, and designed a makeshift oven with copper wire and batteries. Spoiler: it takes 263 D-cell batteries to cook a turkey.
Head over to Wired to find out exactly how it’s done and learn a few things in the process!
