Recognise this building? Today, it's the gleaming Baltimore Design School. But not long ago, it was an abandoned warehouse used by HBO for scenes of urban decay in The Wire. Talk about a comeback story.
As Co.Design explains, this primary school offers architecture, graphic design and fashion design curricula, bringing new life to a former manufacturing plant abandoned in the 1980s. Overhauled through a combination of public and private funding, and packed with donations from Adobe and many others, this former symbol of blight is now a bright spot in Baltimore's physical and intellectual landscape.
