Max Gunawan’s wonderful Lumio accordion book lamp has been popping up on design sites for the past year or so. But after a successful Kickstarter campaign earlier this year, it’s finally available for purchase, bringing its soft glow to home libraries around the world.
Featuring a laser-cut wooden cover made from maple, cherry or walnut, the book’s pages are actually a water-resistant, paper-like material called Tyvek that’s all but impossible to tear. The $US160 lamp is illuminated with dimmable LEDs that produce about as much light as a 40-watt bulb, and while it can be left plugged in all day long, a built-in rechargeable battery will keep it glowing for eight hours away from a USB port. And you thought Shakespeare was enlightening. [Lumio via designboom]
