If you’re not from Australia (or even Victoria), Aussie Rules can be a confusing sport to watch… and the commentary even more so to listen to. In fact, one could exploit the melding of one country’s more popular sports — and its commentary — for comedic effect, as UK comedian Anthony Richardson does here with the US’ much-loved pastime of basketball.
In the above clip, Richardson, one-third of YouTube comedy channel The Exploding Heads, does his best to explain what’s going on during an NBA finals game. Though describing viewers as netball fans doesn’t see him getting off to a good start.
I also wasn’t aware that basketball involved the acquisitions of figs, but I guess you learn something new every day.
