Microsoft Is Making New Surface Tablets In All Kinds Of Aspect Ratios

Microsoft’s line of Surface tablets aren’t bad products — they’re just not compelling enough to break through with an audience outside of Windows fanboys. With a bit of experimentation, though, Surface could find its niche. And it seems like that’s exactly what Microsoft has in mind.

At an in-store preview of the new Surface tablets in Seattle, the product’s chief manager Panos Panay spilled some juicy info about Microsoft’s future plans for the line. The horizontal-friendly 16:9 aspect ratio isn’t the only design Microsoft plans to release. GeekWire reports:

“We have a lot of great things that we are thinking about and working on, and there are multiple aspect ratios and sizes and awesome things to come from Surface,” he said. “That’s the best answer I have for you.”

Such a tease! What does Redmond have in store for us? Given that we just got our first look at the latest iteration of Surface tablets a week ago, we’re not expecting to see any developments on this front anytime soon. Still, it’s nice to hear that Microsoft is planning on getting a little weird. It’s a great strategy for getting on track when you’re behind. [GeekWire]
