WSJ: New iPhone Will Include Fingerprint Scanner

Ahead of today’s big Apple event, the Wall Street Journal is reaffirming rumours that the more expensive of the two phones to be announced will feature fingerprint scanning technology.

It’s by no means a new rumour — having been suggested by French site Nowhereelse.fr, Reuters and the WSJ before. But clearly the Journal is confident that the iPhone 5S will feature the technology. Rumours of a new, silver ring surrounding the iPhone’s iconic button neatly complement the speculation too.

While fingerprint scanning has failed to really take off in the past, if Apple can make the concept work it could be pretty amazing. Essentially you could forget lockscreen passwords, instead relying on the phone to recognise your finger as you tap it’s button. Let’s wait and see what comes of the launch later today.
